If you are selling food online, the general rule is you will need the SFC license unless you are restricting the online sales locally, within the province that it was manufactured in.

Now, there are few things that may overwrite this rule including exemptions for SFC license, business sizes and type of food products. That being said, the safest way for you, to not get caught off guard for not having the SFC license, when you should have is to determine the SFC license requirements through these links.

To determine your full obligation, check all the following links:

Does your business require a licence?
Does your business require a preventive control plan?
Does your business require traceability records?

Note that the SFC license also includes requirements for Preventive Control Plan (PCP) and Traceability. Be sure to go through all the links and save a copy of the online assessment.

When puzzled, the best way is to check all that applies to you. If you are involved in a longer supply chain eg. combining importing and manufacturing. Decode piece by piece of your business, to determine all that applies to you.
